Midlogue 3: Change of Plans
THE ORIGIN - ENFRONZERE 15, 2525 - 31:15OT - BRILLIANCE LABORATORIES
Cano was never one to withhold information from anyone. He demanded that everyone was informed. During his speech at the feast on the night of departure, Cano gave the massing at the Biosphere a history lesson. He told of how their situation came to be, how this man-made apocalypse started. Many of those living there were confused on the issue; they had woken to explosions and chaos. They ran and hid until they were found or happened upon the Biosphere. There was nothing more than rumor and myth circling through the camp before. He made a point to put everything in perspective. He called direct attention to the world wide catastrophe and how lucky they were.
A surveillance system at the Biosphere recorded the feast and Cano's speech. In it he said, '…The Earth is dying and we are killing it. War has raged on and the blatant disregard for its fragile ecosystems has been overlooked by the higher ups for to long. An irreversible event not only started, but is feeding and growing. Eventually the Dead Zones could engulf the entire planet.
More war is not the answer and it turns out many have already voiced their opinion! Usually, with 21st century power triangles, these rebellious loud mouths would have been shut up or paid off rapidly. Because of the magnitude of the situation, the breaks in command, and the fact that 'Money' is no longer worth anything, these 'rebellious loud mouths' have formed a committee! A committee with a common goal: the preservation of human life. They are headed by a man named Dr. Blundquist, the man who found us!
Dr. Blundquist has called for a 'Meeting of Minds' at the Denver Institute of Science and has requested, most notably, Dr. Ian Anderson. Sgt. Donaldson was sent with 'The Rig' for two reasons. The first was to prepare us for departure to DIS. The second was to take my place as head of communications. His experience is through the roof as well as that of his team. They are here to help. They will keep you safe until evacuation. Teach them the ropes and listen to their ideas. You will thrive together.
Sgt. Donaldson brings contact with the remaining militaries to a reality. As the war moves and thins they will update and assist you with relocation. Our homes may or may not be there when that is possible so alternative locations will become much more obtainable with their fancy satellites. We will also be able to communicate with you along our trip, well for most of it at least. You will stay informed!…'.
It was July 10, 2013 when Cano and his group left the Biosphere. There were 16 of them total, men and women alike. They all had certain abilities, strengths. They were meant to work as a team; they fit together like a puzzle. They headed north-east toward the DIS, many Dead Zones littered their path but with the special equipment provided by Sgt. Donaldson, the group was fearless and rightfully so. The six vehicles they took were all outfitted with life support, defensive, and offensive systems.
They drove in a prescribed order leading with the Assault Buggy, and its duel 50 caliber machine guns. The Fire Truck came second followed by The Rig, both armed with grenade launches and a plethora of ammo. Following was the Semi Truck that held supplies and the Motorcycles. It in turn was followed by the highly armored Fuel Tanker. They installed fan spouts on the corners and sides of it. The kind of spouts that make the liquid fan out as it sprays so it covers a wider area. These spouts were positioned behind propane pilot lights that, when activated, could unleash a ten foot radial shield of fire that surrounded the entire vehicle. A spray hose and pump taken from the Fire Truck were mounted to the top of the Fuel Tanker which gave it a 200 foot flame thrower. Finally there was the Armored Truck. It contained all the important and volatile devices and equipment. All the vehicles had solid tires, rigged armored plating, and were fitted with the Squad Blender system.
For most of the trip the team battled the elements more than enemies. A few disbanded squads showed up here and there but they were never a match. Everything ran slow and steady until they came upon Colorado Springs, CO on July 24th. It was a city overrun with enemy forces, a major stronghold. In a location directly in the middle of the 'Charity Gap', a large strip of land that was not affected by Dead Zones, yet, due to the movement of Coriolis Weather Cells and mountain placement.
